Intro to 2D Design - Day 2

Lesson on house design, and what makes a good floor plan and house design.

Go to this site:

Change Total Living Area (square feet) to a Maximum of 2500ft/m as shown below.

And select 1 Floor House Plans.

This is the kind of house we will be designing for the project.

Now sort it by Square Footage and Descending.

Click on Show Details to see the floor plans and more info about each house design.

BLOG POST ASSIGNMENT:

Select 3 houses within the parameters we looked at above that you would consider buying and living in.  For each house:

1. Post a link to the house design and explain what you liked about this house
2. Compare these 3 designs to the house that you made and answer:
1. How is your design different from these professional designs with respect to:
1. Location of rooms
2. Space efficiency
3. Placement of doors
2. Redesign your house to look similar to these designs.  Make it good enough to be a house listed on this website based on what you see and the in-class lesson.

"Good" house design considerations:

• Make use of every space.  No dead or useless spaces
• Shortest routes
• Only private areas can have specific routes to get to them
• Bathrooms must be close enough so if you have to puke at any point in any area of your house, you can make it to the bathroom!
